Have fun turning garbage into resources.

This project started as a project of the Waseda University student-certified environmental volunteer group "Environmental Rodrigues" . The theme of the project is to make environmental issues more accessible and fun to think about.

We work with a variety of approaches.

Activity objectives and philosophy

Precious Plastic Waseda aims to make environmental issues more familiar and enjoyable by turning waste plastic into resources.

We believe that the process of crushing and processing the collected plastic ourselves, and turning it into items that can be used again in daily life , has the power to make us rethink our concept of "waste."

"Recycling is more creative and fun." By spreading this value, we hope to not only reduce waste, but also create a future where a "sustainable perspective" naturally takes root in everyday life.

Background to the start of the activity

We were formed in October 2024 by members of Environmental Rodrigues at Waseda University .

The idea came from a sense of challenge that "environmental activities are not fun." Many people are interested in environmental issues, but the scale of the issues is so large that they do not feel it is fun or tangible, and are unable to take action. This project was started with the desire to make recycling something that people can "feel real about and enjoy" by changing what happens to plastic with their own hands .

Currently, members from different faculties and years come together and work from a variety of perspectives, including manufacturing, environmental education, and design.

Our activities began with a shared vision for Precious Plastic, an open source recycling project that is being carried out around the world.

Precious Plastic is a global movement that originated in the Netherlands, and is a project to recycle plastic using everyday equipment and ideas. Communities around the world are free to participate and create their own recycling centers in their own areas.
