Recycled plastic beads
Recycled plastic beads
At Precious Plastic Waseda, we are also running a project called "beads" to make the possibilities of recycled plastic more familiar and enjoyable.
A new material is created by "melting" plastic. By "shaping" it with our hands, we hope to create an experience where people and the environment, and people and each other, can "melt" together again.
How beads are made
These beads are made by cutting the circular molded pieces that are printed out all at once using an injection molding machine, one by one, by hand. As you can see in the picture, the beads are printed out in a ring shape and then cut out one by one to complete the process.
Material: Recycled polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene (PE)
Color: Using the original color of the recycled plastic, marble patterns and transparent grains are also available.
Manufacturing process: Injection molding → Hand cut
Uses: Accessories, straps, key chains, art pieces, etc.

Use in events: Creating and experiencing with children
These beads are also useful for events and outdoor workshops where setting up an injection molding machine is difficult.
In particular, the hands-on programs aimed at children allow them to choose beads of their favorite colors and freely create bracelets, key chains, and other items.
Plastic is not "waste" but a "material."
And the material has expression and potential.
While playing and having fun, we create an opportunity for children to not only "know" but also "feel" about the environment.
That is the major role of these beads.

About the product
These beads are recycled plastic products that we have manufactured ourselves using polypropylene (PP) as the main raw material, collected from locally sourced plastic bottle caps, contact lens cases, etc.
Weight: Approx. 3.6g per set
Material: Recycled polypropylene (PP, PE)
Manufacturing method: Injection molding
Mold provider: Sustainable Design Studio
Manufacturing location: Waseda University campus
The blue, white, and light blue marbled pattern that appears on the surface is created without the use of any coloring agents, but rather from the color of the collected plastic itself. Each pattern is different, making it a one-of-a-kind design.
